The course for your driving license with us in Højbjerg near Aarhus & Viby

General information about getting a driver’s license with us

How old do you have to be to start your license?

  • You can start getting your license 3 months before you turn 17.
  • The earliest you can take a theory test is one month before you turn 17.
  • The earliest you can take your driving test is the day you turn 17

The day you turn 18, you can drive the car yourself and you don’t have to take a new test. Until then, you must have an experienced driver with you who is over 30 years old and has had a driver’s license for the last 10 years, and your license must not have been suspended during this period.

If you are under 18, you need your parents’ consent. They give it by filling out a declaration. You will receive it at the driving school at the start of the class. You can also download it here: Declaration of consent for 17-year-olds – hand it in at the citizen service together with your medical certificate and first aid certificate.

If you want to know more about the rules as a 17-year-old with a driving license, or want to know more about what it means to be a companion to a 17-year-old, it’s all very well described here on the Danish Road Safety Agency’s website.

Before you show up

When you start your driver’s license course, it’s a good idea to get your paperwork in order:

You must be cleared by your own doctor to get a driver’s license. Your vision, hearing and reflexes will be checked. You need to bring a passport photo and about DKK 500 for the doctor. It is important that it is your own doctor, otherwise your medical certificate will be rejected by Borgerservice. It is also important that your medical certificate is unopened when it is handed in at Citizen Service.

In addition, you will also need to take a road traffic first aid course. You can find that here.

When can I sign up for a class?

You can do it today. Right here!

Where and how does the theory for your driving license take place?

Kørekompagniet has premises at Rosenvangs Allè 199C in Højbjerg.

You must attend 8 theory sessions. The theory has a duration of 2 to 3 hours.

In addition to classroom instruction, you’ll be able to purchase access to online theory so you can practice at home during the course.

You can see the team starts under Sign up in the menu

The theory and driving follow each other, so when you have highway theory, we will be on the highway in the following driving lesson.

In our summer crash course for driving licenses, you’ll complete 90% of the course in 2 weeks. We have theory 4 times each week from 9 am to 12 pm. Then you’re out driving for about 1.5 hours every day. Many people are happy with the summer classes as it’s a good intensive way to learn. At the same time, you’ll still be able to keep up with your day job and friends, but please keep your calendar free for the two weeks if you sign up.

The drive

You start on the maneuvering track (playpen), where you learn the basic maneuvers and how to handle the car. After that, you’ll be well equipped to hit the road. Don’t worry, you won’t be thrown into the center of Aarhus on your first driving lesson.

We start and end driving lessons from the driving school. If you have an intermediate lesson at one of the nearby schools, we can also start and end there. We usually drive 1.5 hours at a time.

At the end of the course, you’ll go to a technical driving facility (slippery track). Here you learn how to maneuver the car on different surfaces at different speeds.

The driving test

The practicalities

Inside

The driving tests in Aarhus start and end at Bautavej in Aarhus V.

Aarhus is a great city to drive in, but it’s also technically difficult for drivers. There are many cyclists, one-way streets, right turns, multi-lane ring roads, light rail tracks and not least roadworks.

The minimum requirement is 16 driving lessons of 45 minutes each, which the basic package includes. There’s no telling how many you’ll need beforehand. There are many naturals who have good motor skills and pick it up easily. They only need 16 lessons and then they’re ready for the driving test in Aarhus. Others need a few more hours before they are ready to take the test. It is assessed individually.

Before your driving test, we have a driving lesson to warm you up and adjust the seat and mirrors to suit you. Luckily, it’s the same car you’ll be testing in that you’ve had your driving lessons in.

Under

When the driving test starts, you need to be able to answer technical questions from the examiner about the car. For example, you need to be able to check the oil and find out if the tires are legal. You can learn more about this here. Before the test, we have gone through the car and the requirements.

You will then take a ride with the examiner without your driving instructor. The trip takes about 30 minutes. Here you will be tested on your skills as a new driver and not as an experienced driver. While driving, you must follow the expert’s instructions on the route, the expert is not allowed to help you, so remember to pay attention to any lane changes, no entry signs, etc.

You can get on the highway, into the city center, Aarhus West, North and South. So you need to be ready for a little bit of everything, as the location of the test site means that you can take many different routes. It won’t be realistic to drive through the entire city in the driving lessons, so there may be places in the driving test where you haven’t been before.

When you return from the drive, you will be told immediately whether you have passed or failed. If you pass, you will be given a temporary license until the real one arrives in the mail. With your temporary license you can only drive in the Nordic countries (Scandinavia), if you are 17 when you pass it is only valid in Denmark.

After

Well, we’re done. Well, almost. Now you have to decide if you want to share your experience with the rest of the world on Facebook. It’s completely optional if you want to have your picture taken so your friends and family can get the good news. See you in traffic, where we are always happy to greet our new and old students. 🙂
